About nearestbeach.uk
The only site that tells you the nearest beach to any UK town using real road distances — not guesses.
Why we built this
Every other site that claims to find the “nearest beach” uses either rough estimates or straight-line “as the crow flies” distances. That tells you nothing useful. A beach that looks 15 miles away on a map might be 35 miles by road — or require a 90-minute drive because of motorway routing.
nearestbeach.uk was built to fix that. We calculate real road distances from every UK town to every UK beach — so when we say the nearest beach to Salisbury is 33.4 miles away, that’s the actual road distance, not a guess.
We cover over 36,000 UK towns and villages across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, paired with 400+ bathing beaches and the most accurate road-distance data available.
What makes us different
We use actual road routing data, not straight-line estimates. The difference matters — especially inland.
Every beach shows its current Environment Agency (EA), SEPA (Scotland), or NIEA (Northern Ireland) water quality rating — updated annually.
We show exactly when dogs are and aren't allowed — including summer restrictions. No more surprises.
Paid, free, or none — we include parking information for every beach so you can plan before you go.
Every beach shows its seasonal lifeguard coverage so you can make safe choices for your family.
We display current Blue Flag status — the international standard for safe, clean, well-managed beaches.
Our data sources
Data is updated annually. Water quality ratings reflect the most recent official bathing season assessment.
How distances are calculated
For our top 500 most-searched towns, distances are pre-calculated using real road routing data. For all other towns, we use a calibrated Haversine formula with a road-factor correction — giving an accurate estimate that accounts for typical road networks.
Pages using estimated distances are clearly marked. We’re progressively adding full road data for all UK towns.
